5.0 out of 5 stars lego train is fantastic 14 Oct 2010

My son had this train for his 7th birthday and absolutely loves it, he has always enjoyed
playing with trains and this was a bit more grown up for him, obviously it is made from lego
so does require more careful handling, if you drop it it will break! but once put together
which is all part of the fun, it is brilliant, I have brought extra track and he spends hours playing with it, it has 7 different speeds controlled by a remote control, on the downside it requires 9aaa batteries, although an expensive toy it is worth every penny.

4.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful LEGO train 9 Jan 2011

LEGO is a toy manufacturer of the highest calibre and this train-set proves it. I got this as a Christmas present to my six year old boy and he was thrilled. He managed to assemble it in approximately forty five minutes while I was making sure he was not missing any step and despite the fact that we had no batteries and that he was only able to run in manually once he finished, he loved it.

Now this train is perfect for a six-year old boy who is into LEGO City kits but for an older kid or a grown-up LEGO fan there are some features missing that might be disappointing. For example, The train has no doors. Unlike other LEGO city kits, like the yellow bus that comes with the pizza restaurant and its bus stop, the only way to insert mini figures inside it, is by lifting its roof. Not very realistic.

Yet the colours, the design the stop etc are all very nice and make a very nice set indeed.

+
design = this is a truly modern electric train
colours = the red is much better than the white of its predecessor.
train stop = its basic but cleverly designed and well equipped

-
no doors = mini figures can be inserted by lifting the roof
tracks = provided you want to have your train running in a closed shape the only one you can make is a small ellipse
passenger wagons = there is only one and you cannot buy more separately

This was the perfect present for my lego mad and train crazy 8 year old son. He managed very well with the construction and mechanics to get this toy working independantly from the instruction and loves playing with it; being able to mend when it happens to come off the rails! I like the different channel setting on the controller for future trains to be controlled with the one handset. A great toy.
