Tip number 71: Turn the television off not just the power consumption but the advertising even within shows like Masterchef is getting beyond a joke, if you don't know about a product you don't want it and if you're busy doing other things there's less time to watch tv or want to spend. Gardening in the evening is a great way to get outdoors get fit and skip over TV content that's only made to sell you things or try to create a lifestyle that you aspire to.

72: Haggle when your mobile phone contract is up, one way to save cash on mobile bills.

Money Saving Tip #72: Haggle when your mobile phone contract is up.

If you're on a mobile phone contract and happy with your current handset, when the renewal comes around haggle and say you don't want a new handset and ask for a knock off price, often a handset can cost $10 to $50 a month of your mobile phone bill, but what's the point of upgrading your phone every year? Especially when you're happy with it and it's full of your contacts and photos. If you can try to upgrade only every two years you get a better jump in technology and save money for the years you haven't upgraded!

Make sure you use the words "you can't do any better than that?" I got $20 off my Telstra bill a few years back, since then I've gone for pre-paid can be good if you're not a heavy phone user. However having a phone contract can be good for those that are trying to build up a credit score, if you don't need to worry about that a pre-paid phone can save you money.

Find how to get a free credit report to find out your credit score in here: how to get your credit report for free.

    73. don't buy bottled water it's expensive!!!!

Give up bottle water, take a bottle that you can re-fill on regular occasions, even better if you can fill-up in work place or similar to save on your own water bills!

Saving tip 75 - Haggle - see what deal the sales person can do for you!

As there are two posts for 73 I'll go to 75

If set out to buy something expensive always say I only have ..............$ to spend and see what they can come up with, then see how much more it costs to go the next level up and say you can't justify the price and leave it at that, normally the salesperson will work a solid deal . I seem to do well but I don't charge in and ask "what's the lowest price on this?" That gets you nowhere!

Thank you fool for pointing that out, than you Gav for updating it.

money saving tip #76 (got it right this time ) Use free software to create a package similar to Adobe Creative Suite

I know Gav mentioned free software for virus scanners and the like, this is more specific and I feel very helpful for students and creative people that don't need software professionally!!

Free software like Adobe InDesign - Scribus. Free software like Adobe Photoshop.

78: make your own pizzas, I went to a friends last night and we often get the two for Tuesday or now the Cheaper 3-Days deals from Dominos but we're both trying to loose weight and wanted to control our eating and not just get a Large pizza each instead she had got in mini pizza bases something like this: Pizza Bases Mini 12 pack | National from Coles and we added our own toppings making them as healthy as we could and didn't even use all the bases between us, there are 12 in the pack!!! It saved us a few bucks if we can ever be bothered picking them up, if not then it was closer to $15 - $20 and there were left over capsicum, onion, sweet corn, pizza bases and mushrooms for Noni's lunches for the next few days. It was also fun to make them and could be a lot of fun for a family!!!

79: I'm always trying to find ways to save money and I think this one's important: don't pay for websites that give out money saving hints and ideas, there's 100s if not 1000s of free tip websites out there, research all and implement all the free ideas first, if you're still having problems and not saving enough maybe then try a pay site. I've never tried one as personally I feel it's they're a bit expensive when trying to save money, many are $30+ a month! That's just not right! People struggling with money need to save their money not pay for websites about how to keep it. That defeats the purpose!!!! Thanks to Gav and edhen2416 for running this site and thread to help us save money
