Check your supermarket receipts, you can often get items free if they get it wrong!

    30.
Check your supermarket receipts, it's amazing how often they get it wrong! I know in NSW if they've priced it wrong you get the first item free and any others at the correct price marked on the shelf. I've had a few great free purchases due to this!

It maybe nation wide, can anyone clear this up for me? Here's a great link about it: Scanning Code of Practice for Supermarkets

    The Item Free Policy
If the price displayed at the checkout or on the customer receipt is higher than the shelf price, the customer is entitled to receive that item free of charge.

The Shelf Price is the price of an individual item that appears on a shelf label or shelf price label.

The Shelf Label or Shelf Price Label means the sign or label showing the price of individual items at the place where the product is displayed for sale to the customer.

The item free policy does NOT cover goods that are “item priced”.
The item free policy does NOT cover goods where the shelf price is $50 or greater.
    The Multiple Purchases Policy
Where multiple items bearing identical bar codes, or the same PLU number, are scanned and the scanned price is higher than the shelf price, the customer is entitled to receive the first item scanned free of charge and the remaining items at the lower price (that is, the shelf price).

You may already have travel insurance on your credit card, no point paying an insurance company

    31.
Before travelling and getting travel insurance check you don't already have it through your credit card. My parents are over from Australia and staying with me in Edinburgh and were talking about how much their travel insurance had cost, so I asked if they had it already on their credit card and maybe they shouldn't have bothered getting it (turns out they didn't) but I thought this is one of those things people forget and buy extra travel insurance rather than just use their one they've been paying for with the fee of the credit card, I know Commonwealth does for certain cards: Complimentary Insurance Cover - Credit Cards - Commonwealth Bank Group

"Relax — we've got you covered

When you use your Commonwealth Bank Gold, Platinum or Diamond Credit Card to pay for overseas travel in advance, and if you meet the eligibility criteria, you can enjoy complimentary insurance cover for yourself, your spouse and your dependent children*.

So when you’re travelling, you’ll have peace of mind, knowing that you’ll be covered for hospital and medical expenses, loss of your belongings and unexpected expenses"

However many of the no fee credit cards - Fee Free Credit Cards, best cards with no annual cost in Australia! - don't offer insurance, so check your policy!

    32. Don't take the car to the shops, I know this isn't for everyone, if you live less than 2km away it should be a fairly easy walk and it saves money on petrol and means you only buy what you know you can carry home rather than a full car load that you probably don't need and food that may go off.

    33. Did you sign up for a gym membership in January? I did! Did you use it past January? I didn't!!!!

Cancel that gym membership it's wasting you money and if you follow my tip for 32 you can loose as much weight and save yourself money by not having a gym membership! If you do have a gym membership that you use work out what you can do at home I read that a walk at a good pace works as well as running for the same amount of time and is better for general health as there's less ware and tear on the body.

    35. Online shopping - Ok so I know it takes away business from local businesses BUT when you're on a budget it's definitely worth it to check out online sales. I embarrassingly buy ALOT of things online... books, cd's, dvd's, clothes, shoes and most of the time it's all brand new and I save a huge amount of money

Buy presents for the year when things are on sale, great to grab during new years sales.

    36.
Buy when items are on sale and store them away for gifts, this is a great way to get birthday and Christmas presents and helps you be organised for such events. I'm pretty rubbish at getting presents so I've started saying "Oh mum would like that" and if it's on sale buying it and putting it away, best if you've got somewhere specific you put these presents!

    37. Don't always follow the instructions, try using less dishwashing, laundry powder or liquid

    37.
Don't always follow instructions, I've been testing out the instructions for our dishwasher and laundry detergents, the dishwasher says use 1 full spoon of powder, I've found that on a normal wash half a spoon does as good a job, so you get twice as many washes out of 1 box.

Washing machine liquid says 4 pumps and I've found 2 and a half works as well. The packet says it should do 50 loads at 4 pumps, but at 2.5 pumps you get 80 loads, and I've noticed no difference, it even smells as fresh.
