Christmas money saving Tip 2: If you give gifts to friends, agree on a limit for how much you can spend on presents. I know it's about giving and not receiving but sometimes it's tough to give too much.

Now many of my friends are having kids we've all said no presents between each other. I also only give gifts for friends kids first Christmas now, as there's getting more every year and it was getting expensive!

Money Saving Tip for Christmas 3: Hand deliver Christmas Cards. Cost of postage when you add up numerous Christmas cards, if you know you're going to see someone then hand deliver the card to them.

tip 4: Make your own gift labels. I cut the cards from last year up into gift label shapes, making sure not to use bits with writing on them so you can write on the back. They're colourful, great for Christmas, free and it's also re-cycling

tip 5: If you plan a party: get people to bring things for it, BYOB is always popular, many of my friends are great cooks and I love when they bring dishes over. Make sure you give the dish back promptly, I've still got a few in my cupboard from last year! When friends come over we remember at the start of the night but often forget by the end

Nice ones Shopaholic, thanks for adding them.

Tip 6: Get Presents for friends and family you're not seeing until later after Christmas.

If you know you're not going to see a friend or family member until after Christmas buy presents in the after Christmas sales, these can often save a lot of money. I know that Click Frenzy is before Christmas and you will probably get great deals then but often the sale items after Christmas are even better!

Tip 7: Don't get into debt over buying people Christmas presents, I had one friend that was paying off credit card debts from Christmas 2010 in December 2011 and he thought that was the norm. Getting gifts doesn't have to send you into debt and if it does do what Shopaholic did in her money saving tip #2 and agree not to give gifts until yours or your friends situations pick up. How many pairs of undies and socks do you actually need?

MrMoneyExpert that's a terrible situation to be in. Lots of friends are often paying off holidays by the time they go on their next one, a friend went to Egypt and was still paying it off when she took off to Hawaii the following year, then Vegas and NY now she can't go anywhere due to lack of money!!!

Tip 8: ask for things that you normally buy through the year, I regularly buy a few magazines through the year and ask for subscriptions to them for Christmas, it makes me think of the person every month when a new edition comes

Tip 9: start taking advantage of sales now, if you know that your family drink a lot of a certain wine or beer grab them when you see them on sale, best to keep them out of sight or they may get drunk also works for things like nibbles, my family devour chocolate covered nuts especially macadamias, if you know where to get them cheap let me know, and it's great to get non perishables while they're on sale and in stock
