How to set up a warning and hard data limit on your Android phone, stop excess 3G and 4G bills!

One of the best ways to save on your mobile phone bills is by setting up the hard data limit on your phone, this works on Android 4.0 and above:

First test which version of Android you have,
    yo
Find your phone's settings tab, then go to About Phone, mine's right at the bottom of the menu, then check the number under Android Version and if you've got 4.0 or above then you're in luck as this should work for you!

Mobile Data: This is about 3G and 4G not your home wifi or free wi-fi from networks from pubs and cafes.

The start setting up a Data Limit in Android:

    1. Head to the Settings App
    2. Choose the option Data Usage
    3. This brings up a chart with your 3G and 4G usage, over certain periods, days, weeks and months, there's 2 sliders a red & yellow, these let you set warning (yellow) and limit (red) levels for your 3G and 4G usage. Under the graph there's information about your apps that use the most data.
    4. There should be an option to Set mobile data limit (red slider), choose an amount that's the same, or just below, what you get as part of your mobile contract, say you're on the $60 plan from Telstra - Telstra - Mobile Phones - Every Day Connect Plans which gives you 1GB move the red slider to 1GB, I prefer to go for just below the limit in case the phone company has a different idea on data than your phone, somewhere around 990mb and should be good enough.
    5. Use the yellow slider the warning slider to set a warning amount so that you know early where you are with your data package.
    6. Make sure you set the dates for when your data package ranges for, you don't want to set it for daily when it's monthly! This information should be on your bill or on your online account.

So don't go wasting money with your phone company and set a limit to restrict your 3G and 4G data usage on your phone!
