I like New Balance as I've got really fat feet and New Balance are one of the very few companies that make shoes that fit my feet, they're also british made so you know they're not made in sweat shops by young children!

Not any more, I think only the ones sold in the UK are made in Britain and I'm pretty sure even some of them are Chinese too.

From what I have read New Balance do pay substancially more in the way of wages than other Chinese shoe manufacturers.

The only Asian fair trade shoe I know of is the Etiko but sadly their styles are aimed more towards hipsters, this is the only one I would consider wearing-

    Product Description

    FAIR TRADE, ORGANIC AND VEGAN
They may look similar to a well-known brand but these bad boys are radically different.
Let’s start with the sole ...its actually all natural, made from sustainable latex and certified by the FSC (which means the rubber was actually tapped from a tree in a well managed and growing forest instead of being made from petro-chemicals like most other ‘rubber’ products).
Then on to the canvas and laces which are made with cotton which has been certified both organic (GOTS) and fairtrade (FLO). Next stop are the dyes used on the canvas ...they are PCP and AZO free. Finally we even put some thought into the shoe box, yes we know it looks cool but it’s actually made from post-consumer waste.
So there you have it ...a sneaker that is more than just a sneaker!
By the way though they are made with certified fairtrade cotton, in an accredited fairtrade factory and we pay a social premium to both the rubber producers in Sri Lanka and to the shoe stitchers in Pakistan these sneakers aren’t certified fairtrade.
The reason for this is that, at this stage, there is no fairtrade standard for footwear ...though we hope there will be one soon. Meanwhile we will continue to lead the way in the production of eco/ethical footwear.
Finally, please note all Etiko sneakers are 100% Vegan. No animal glues (common in most footwear) or leather inserts.

    They're decent looking ones.

Wow I always thought NB was a UK company just looked it up on Wikipedia - New Balance - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Seems before then a lot was made in the US Too.

"According to Fortune Magazine in 2006, "about 70 percent of its shoes are now made in China and the other 5 percent in Vietnam."

Maybe it's just the fat footed shoes I get that are UK made. Then again been 5 or 6 years since I've been buying sneakers as can't wear them due to my ankle tendons, have to wear huge braces and they only fit hiking boots.
