Wow it now has 14GB data a month, when I got it only gave 3GB, this can be a great way of saving on roaming data as you can set it up as a wireless router and connect your phone through it! Much cheaper than many data plans! Check it out here:

Sadly these deals seem to have come to an end, any more good mobile broadband discount pre-paid or contracts for Australia?

Before you choose to BYO modem, check the list below. Looking for Apple 3G iPad or Tablet PC plans?

    • Type of modem: It can be a USB modem, WiFi modem, wireless data card or inbuilt modem in a laptop.
    • Frequency: Ideally both 900MHz and 2100MHz, to take advantage of the Optus 3G Dual Band network, although most metro areas are covered by 2100MHz. If you have a 4G capable device, it will need to be compatible with the 1800MHz frequency.
    • Network unlocked: If you're locked to another network, you'll need to contact your previous service provider to unlock it.
    • SIM card slot: So you can plug in our Virgin Mobile Broadband SIM card.

    Modem Setup
OK. So you're ready to roll? You'll just need to update your modem connection settings, so it knows to use our network.

    • APN VirginBroadband
    • Username* [blank]
    • Password*[blank]
    • Number* 99#

That's it. Bear in mind if you do decide to BYO modem that we will refer you back to the equipment manufacturer for technical support.

*Network coverage depends on your phone. 3G services are available to up to 97% of the population with compatible 3G dual band phones and up to 80% of the population with compatible 3G single band phones. Those lucky folk with compatible 4G devices connected to any Virgin Mobile postpaid plan will be able to use the Optus 4G network where it's available. Outside those areas you'll fall back to the Optus 3G dual band network. A number of factors may affect coverage including location, demand on the network and the use of an external antenna. Check coverage at virginmobile.com.au/coverage.
The Fine Print: Not for sale in Northern Territory. International roaming not available with mobile broadband. 1) Data includes uploads and downloads. Exceed your data allowance & speed is limited to 128Kbps for the next 250MB. Use more and your service will be unavailable until the first day of your next usage period, unless you purchase a data top up (max 3 per month). Service cancellation may apply if you download continuously or if your use adversely impacts other users. Acceptable Use Policy applies. Peer to peer speed is limited to 32Kbps. 2) With a Postpaid Mobile plan on the same account. 3) The Optus 4G Network is available in selected areas. Coverage is device dependent. 4G Dual band refers to our 4G 1800MHz/2300MHz coverage and devices. 4G Single band refers to our 4G Single band 1800MHz coverage and devices. Compatible 4G devices can also access the Optus 3G & 2G network. A number of factors may affect coverage including location, demand on the network and the use of an external antenna. 4G WiFi Device will only access 4G 1800MHz network, outside of these areas, it will automatically fall back to 3G network. The 4G 1800MHz network is not available in Canberra. Check coverage at virginmobile.com.au/broadband-coverage-checker. Postpaid Mobile Broadband: 4) Leave anytime just pay current month's pro-rated spend and any outstanding amounts. Note: Credit approved customers only. 1st bill is pro-rated (min monthly spend and included data) from the date you connect to the start of your next month's bill. Payment by E-Bill & Direct Debit only.

Their pricing plan makes no sense

$40 12GB Ideal for regular internet use, downloads & streaming media

then if you want 13GB you have pay another $20 for 1GB!!

If you need the extra 1GB; you can just get a second sim and get 2GB for the same price:

$20 2GB No contract leave anytime!

not a bad price in all. Get 2 x $40 sims and you have 24GB per month.

Very interesting and great notice on the plan differences there DealDude.

Just thinking if Liberal get in they may as well scrap the NBN all together and go for 4G nationwide, 4G can offer 100Mbps, that's about the same as the Liberal's idea for the NBN.

Liberal NBN or 4G would mean 1GB would take 80 seconds.
    Labor NBN 1GB = 8 seconds.

I'd still prefer the fibre right across Australia, as Labor are wanting should offer 1000Mbps. Also if there's fibre you should be able to take out old hardware and replace it and as time goes on I could easily see exchanges offer 5000Mbps if there's fibre from one end right to the next.

Hope Australia goes that way as currently the crummy ADSL network which is often 10 to 14 years old is obsolete and Australia's loosing out on internet market place!
