RCA to HDMI? Can it be done?

I've seen a few cables around that say it can be done, but RCA is analogue and HDMI is obviously digital, so my thinking unless there's a converter in there somewhere it shouldn't be able to.

I've seen many HDMI to RCA, Composite or Component but not the other way, basically I want RCA, Composite or Component in and HDMI out, here's one going the other way (on UK Amazon) HDanywhere HDMI to Component Converter Adapter Downscaler

Even Svideo or the older style of Digital out would be fine.
    any help would be appreciated!

From what I read it looks like it will upscale everything to 1080p which is nice.It would come with a US plug so you would need an adaptor.

You also have to make sure they are both the same types of component input/output, not all component connections are compatible.
I found this out the hard way years ago, finding that Denon and Sony used different systems and they are not compatible so I had to use S-Video which was quite annoying.

this topic is very interesting!! I've been wondering is there a way to convert from RCA to DVI 24+1? I have a 4 year old dell monitor that takes DVI 24+1 and HDMI, but have used the HDMI port and wanted to use the DVI24+1 for other hardware.

Monitor may have a VGA in as well can I use that for RCA to VGA?

I'm fairly certain you can go from DVI to HDMI with just an adaptor cable if that is an option. If not you will need an adaptor unit, it would be best to stay away from using composite if possibe, no point in upscaling a poor signal.
