When it comes to HD displays, great resolution is just the start. Unlike other 7" tablets, Kindle Fire HD Tablet 16GB delivers rich colour and deep contrast from every angle, with an advanced polarizing filter and custom anti-glare technology.

    High Definition Touchscreen Display
Rich, HD video. Beautiful, vivid photos. Crisp, detailed text. Kindle Fire HD features a new 1280x800 high definition LCD display that brings your content to life.
    Reduced Screen Glare
Most tablet displays are made up of two pieces of glass - an LCD on the bottom and a touch sensor on the top, separated by an air gap. With an air gap, light reflects off of every surface as it passes through from the front, creating multiple distracting reflections that reduce display contrast. Kindle Fire HD solves this air gap problem by laminating the touch sensor and the LCD together into a single layer of glass, creating a display that's easy to view, even in overhead light.
    Richer Colours at Wider Angles
Like many tablets, Kindle Fire HD uses In-Plane Switching (IPS) to improve colour reproduction. But displays that only use IPS still appear washed out at various angles, such as laid sideways when reading in bed, laid flat on a table, or held between you and a friend when sharing a movie. Kindle Fire HD addresses this issue by applying an advanced polarizing filter directly to the LCD panel. This results in a display that shows the same deep contrast and rich, detailed colour when viewed at any angle.

Review from the Big W website:
    June 28, 2013
A few weeks ago i put an ipad mini on layby at my local big w and i just couldnt pay it off cause i really didnt want to go through installing itunes and dealing with it. But the other day as i walked into big w to place more money on my ipad, i saw the new kindle fire finally selling in australia. I thought to myself YAY, as i cancelled my layby and brought the new kindle.
The one thing i noticed first was the price difference. In australia an ipad mini is around $360 for just the 16gb wifi only. Whereas the kindle fire is only $230 (so that already is a $130 saving). i just couldnt justify spending more on something i wouldnt be satisfied with.
As soon as i got home, i opened it and just looked at it for a little bit. I loved the back of the kindle because it made it look softer. I also noticed where the camera was on the front and that there was no camera on the back (which i liked). I just cant see myself taking pictures on the kindle, but i love the idea that i can skyped with my family now.
The next thing was the display of the kindle, or the layout of the main page. At first i didnt like that when held in portrait, it showed what other people had brought when that app was selected, but after going through the settings i found how to turn it off.
The coolest thing i found was that you could go onto the amazon website and look at apps than send them to your kindle fire (when connected to wifi) and all i had to do was sync. i also love that i dont ever have to connect my kindle to a computer to use.
After having the kindle for just over 2 days i havent found anything i dont like yet. but i am still experimenting.
