I used to really love Lonely Planet, but as it's owners and I gather core readers got older it's drive for cheap travel went out the window and although they often released the "... On a Shoestring" Budget guides they were never for individual countries, instead for entire regions and were massive tomes to lug around in an often already bulging backpack, I'd often photocopy mates books for the country I was heading to instead of taking the whole thing.
It's like Lonely Planet had forgotten their market of backpackers and cheap travel, I moved to Bradt guides for a bit but generally just use the internet for everything.
