edhen2416, feel free to mention links to your great tips like the Empty Fridge Savings Challenge on the website.

Be interested to know the process for your home-made pizza bases, I've found it hard to get healthy ones in supermarkets. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I hope to have time to write up a few longer pieces for the site, however time has been a bit tight as my parents are staying with me for 3 months!!! They're helping with all the DIY around my new house, I've got 3 torn ankle tendons (2 in right & 1 in left) and pretty severe carpal tunnel so a bit useless at a lot of that sort of work at present. Had operations on all 4 limbs, but at present none have got back to 100%. Driving me nuts!

BBC - Food bank rise: Can you feed yourself on £1 (About $1.50Au) a day?

This was on the BBC's website today:

Food bank rise: Can you feed yourself on £1 (About $1.50Au) a day?

The number of people using the country's food banks has doubled as more families are struggling to make ends meet.
That has prompted the international campaign group The Global Poverty Project to ask people to feed themselves on just £1 a day, for five days.
The BBC's Brian Milligan took up the challenge.

Very interesting, some of the meals would be a lot healthier than the food my friends eat, or what we lived on as students!

    I just found this one...

15 Cheap Recipes and Dinner Ideas | Budget-Friendly Family Recipes | Food | Disney Family.com

Not sure how the recipes turn out but it looks pretty tasty. I love good food so once I try some I'll let you know of my thoughts.

Good on Disney for trying to help save people money.

I'm currently trying to put a few recipes together that are healthy, good for you and cheap to make.

one way to save on money from cooking is to go vegetarian or even vegan, I'm not either but probably 4 or 5 days a week I eat mainly vegetarian, I do like my milk and cheese, although coconut milk is great and very nice with milo

There's a good vegan recipe website here:

    Vegan Recipes- Cooking for Vegans

It is a UK site, but I'm sure you can get most of the ingredients in Australia, my wife didn't become vegan until we were living over here so I haven't had to shop for it in Australia yet.

    we're having this tonight:
Portobello mushrooms in puff pastry with red onion and tomato sauce

    with veggies and garlic bread
