I know this is from the BBC and a report about how much people in Britain throw away, but thought it may be of interest to people here.
Food waste: 'Six meals a week' thrown away by Britons

British families throw away an average of the equivalent of six meals per week in food waste, research has suggested.

Currently living in Edinburgh Scotland and a lot of fruit comes as Buy 1 get 1 free, buy 1 get 1 half price or 3 for the price of 2. When these offers come up I put the extra in the fridge until I need it, I like my fruit at room temperature.

My friends over here make fun of the amount of fruit I eat and say things like "you've doubled the amount of fruit Scotland eats" I wouldn't go that far but 5 to 10 pieces a day is pretty normal.
