That does nothing on mine I had to access it via the advanced startup option but now that just reboots it instead of bringing up a menu.

Does anyone know if this is only an upgrade version now? When I bought my copy of Windows 8 it said it was an upgrade but it was a full version, tempted to buy a copy just to see.

The questions on Officeworks page say:

Can this be used to install Windows 8 on a brand new, blank hard drive/PC or does their HAVE to be a previous version of windows on it?

    Answers
As this is an upgrade product you will need a previous version of windows (XP/Vista/7) in order to install this.

It doesn't say if it's an upgrade from 8 to 8.1 or not though.

If you have a code for Windows 8 / 8.1 you can just download an ISO

CNET have a how to get a Windows 8.1 ISO:

Yeah I did read that but I installed it on a formatted drive as I was running XP and didn't see the point in doing an upgrade if you lose all your software, a mate said his was a full version too. They were from the first release so it may have changed......but as you said you can get an ISO download to go to 8.1.

If you're got a Windows 8.1 code and unless your internet is really terrible downloading is a great way to do it. I've just used an Windows 7 ISO to get a friends computer running.

Make sure you take a copy of any codes on the base of your laptop as I keep wearing mine out!

The two I had didn't have any code on them as they came with 8 Preinststalled, I have swapped out drives and reinstalled 8 maybe 3-4 times in a month or so without drama.

Still messing around with dual booting over esata cable, with my old computer I had a HDD caddy for the DVD bay and could boot from that no probs but this ESATA cable one is being a prick, any time I plug it in Windows wants to roll back to the external Drive's OS

Do you have your BIOS to USB boot first?

There's a few pieces of software out there that will give you your Windows Serial for later reference, just make sure you read the install notes as they often come with junkware to change homepages, search engines etc.

Seems Officeworks have sold out now but there are still shops out there that have Windows 8 Pro for sale under $100.

This is the cheapest I could find- BUY Microsoft Windows 8 Professional Upgrade - Retail DVD [3UR-00006] | itsdirect.com.au

Microsoft Windows 8 Professional Upgrade - Retail DVD [3UR-00006]

    Price: $81.08
    Microsoft Windows Professional 8 Upgrade - Retail DVD, 32/ 64-bit [3UR-00006]
Upgrade an existing Windows XP or Windows 7 Operating System (excluding windows 7 ultimate)

Wonder why it says you can't upgrade 7 Ultimate?

So you should be able to update that to 8.1 for free, I fairly certain it will still work but I make no guarantees do it at your own risk
