I've been trying to fix a computer for a friend and none of the bootable options for Windows 7 would work with his computer I tried using the windows tool Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool and tried making both a DVD and a USB option with the ISO I'd downloaded, neither would work I kept getting windows 7 usb/dvd download tool we were unable to copy your files for the USB, the DVD burnt but wouldn't install. Thankfully there's a great piece of software out there called Rufus and made a bootable USB drive in no time at all and worked perfectly from the same Windows 7 ISO that I'd used microsoft's own software with:

Rufus is a small utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives, such as USB keys/pendrives, memory sticks, etc.

It can be especially useful for cases where:

  • you need to create USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, UEFI, etc.)
  • you need to work on a system that doesn't have an OS installed
  • you need to flash a BIOS or other firmware from DOS
  • you want to run a low-level utility
