I think these are really important, or at least printing your pics as a hard backup and backing up your digital files on an external hdd preferably off premise. The amount of times I get friends ringing me saying I've somehow wiped my phone how can I get everything back or my hard drive has died can you please help!?
In 2000 I was just starting out as a photographer and working for the Board of Studies NSW (I was also working in their IT and graphic design section) when they sent me a disk saying they had problems opening the files, thinking I new what I was doing and not noticing that even though the file said it was .jpg it was actually a .bat when opened it started replicating itself over all my .jpg files completely destroying them. I lost about 2000 photos I hadn't backed up.
I did notice that my computer was running it's fans a lot faster than it should, I opened task manager checked what was going on and caught the offending bug before it got everything, but still it was a mess, I've been a lot better at backing up, some may too obsessive.
I have the laptop / dekstop hdds, then back ups of each.
2 x external HDDs of everything on computer. Includes many photos
2 x Raid mirror of all photos. - means 4 copies - plus the 3 above.
